There is a lot of  stigma attached to being HIV positive since people there is no cure for AIDS so far. So many people who may be at risk from AIDS do not visit the doctor, though early detection and treatment of  the disease can prolong the life of the patient. HIV home test kits a person to check for the HIV virus while maintaining confidentiality.   

There are many HIV home test kits available, but only the Home Access Express HIV-1 Test system manufactured by the Home Access Health Corporation has been approved by the FDA in USA . In other countries , different test kits may be available.

 

The accuracy of  most of  the the other test kits has not been verified, though many of  these test kits claim to provide results within 15 minutes. The person who is testing for the HIV virus is usually very nervous and is unable to replicate the controlled laboratory conditions required to produce accurate test results.

 

The Home Access Express HIV-1 Test kit can be purchased at any store or online and costs about US$60. The kit contained detailed instructions and a blotter with a 11 digit secret code. The person testing uses a spring loaded device to prick the little finger so that a couple of  drops of  blood are deposited on the blotter.

 

The blotter has to be sent to the nearest  Home Access laboratory for testing in a prepaid envelope. The user can find the results of the test the next day by calling a toll free number. If  the person tests positive for the HIV virus , he has access to professional counseling .
